If I ruled the world (or mattered at all in a participatory democracy)
Here's what I would advocate for:
- The crime of Ecocide to be internationally adopted and prosecuted immediately
- Fines scaled to match the financial size of the perpetrator, in order to actually deter bad action
- Corporate Personhood to be outlawed
- Land, water, and ecosystems given inalienable person-like rights instead
- Unprecedented reparations from convicted eco criminals and altruistic investors alike, towards global clean-up and deep biodiversity reboot
- Empower and compensate indigenous civilisations, and humbly beg them to show us ways out of our industrial-military hell
- Build new institutions to study and apply large scale addiction recovery worldwide
- Combine science and medicine to detoxify the access to altered states of perception, proprioception, etc., to enable people to navigate life more comfortably and appropriately
- Honour the very human need to mindfully explore altered states of perception, and make it good and safe and culturally valuable
- Make it an international project to eradicate living miserably for everyone
- Redesign money so that it represents the measured health of all ecosystems, ie. a biocentric economy
- Introduce more living systems and wildlife in cities and urban areas
- Engineer legislation so smart that it's impossible for plutocrats to corrupt the legislature and judiciary ever again
- Education at all levels to ensure it's understood how past decisions impact present day realities
