My great friend just asked me to write a piece about the translucency of boiled penguin eggs. So I said okay, then doubtfully went to see whether it was really a thing, or if I'd been sent to buy tartan paint, a glass hammer, or half a dozen sky hooks.

Turns out that they were not making it up, and that according to the only article I've briefly skimmed so far, the white is indeed translucent when boiled, and this was popular before greater safeguards were introduced to protect such wildlife.

My initial revulsion on seeing the yolk visible through the white, unlike with more commonly eaten eggs like chickens', gave me pause for thought and further leaning towards veganism. Who are we to eat the unborn young of other creatures?! (Rhetorical question; you will of course have your own opinion, and this is a hot potato). Speaking of which...
